Wilder Pentwyn project walk - July 2024
It was great that so many Wye Valley Wilders joined the visit to Wilder Pentwyn - an upland hill farm tucked into a beautiful part of the Radnorshire hills. Our walk was kindly hosted by James Hitchcock, the CEO of Radnorshire Wildlife Trust (RWT), who explained the 30 year vision to bring nature back, make space for local food production, hold back water in the landscape and provide opportunities for income generation. James was a hugely knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide and explained why he was so focused on changing the management of the land to a more sustainable, low input system. He was passionate about the need to restore natural processes and put nature back in the driving seat.
As well as enjoying James's fascinating explanation of what the RWT team were aiming to achieve at Wilder Pentwyn, it was brilliant to see the group enjoy so much discussion amongst themselves. An important element of these events is the sharing of ideas, advice and interests in a friendly group of people with a passion for nature restoration. We hope to be back to visit Pentwyn Farm in a couple of years and see how the landscape has changed. The market garden should be in full production by then, so we can look forward to buying some wonderful fresh veg before we head off!
