The Grange Project

80 acre rewilding project in the heart of rural Monmouthshire

Although relatively small in size (80 acres) the Grange Project has big ambitions regarding outreach and education.

Located between Monmouth and Abergavenny, the farm began its rewilding journey in September 2023 with the support of a fantastic community of volunteers and Youngwilders (a youth led non-profit getting young people into nature conservation). Over the first 12 months we have removed all the internal fencing, planted a limited number of trees (including a Tiny Forest), introduced brash piles and leaky woody debris, dug a pond and numerous scrapes and, with the biggest impact so far, our two British Saddleback pigs have been doing amazing ecological disturbance. We have ambitious plans to restore the species rich grassland (with the help of some cattle), whilst allowing natural processes to lead where possible, given the size of our site.

Alongside these physical interventions, we are keen to welcome as many people as possible to the Project in order to learn about nature recovery and inspire connection with nature. We have two glamping cabins on site and have nearly finished the construction of our Wilder Lodge. At the heart of our project this barn conversion will have many functions, including serving as our education centre, hosting bespoke corporate away days and as a lounge space for our glamping guests. Please explore our website to find out more. If you'd like to follow our journey, and learn from some incredible guests, tune into the Wilder Podcast - we explore a range of topics including all aspects of rewilding, climate change and nature connection.
