Fungi Foray
On 22nd November we also had our first fungi foray led by Herefordshire Fungi Survey Group, on a new WVW member’s land in Wales. Despite being a cold day with howling winds, this was a great success, with 27 members braving the horrendous weather and enjoying searching for fungi.
An incredible range of fungi was found by ourselves and the experts from Herefordshire Fungi Survey Group as we enjoyed a guided walk and tour of the 50+ acre site. This was our first visit to this beautiful mixed woodland, both native and planted.
The rain kindly held off until the end of our walk and we were all very grateful for the shelter the woodland provided from the wind. The contrast between the shelter of the rewilding site, which sadly was the only woodland on the bleak overgrazed Welsh hills surrounded the site, was particularly striking in the stormy November weather.
We are very grateful to Chris Blake and his family for inviting us to visit their land.
